FAQ

WHAT’S THE BEST WAY TO GET IN TOUCH?

Please be aware that we don’t have a receptionist or phone in the salon. When you call the salon line, you’ll be redirected to an answering service that we check weekly. While we understand this may be inconvenient for some, a constantly ringing phone takes away from the salon experience and disrupts stylists while working.

The best way to get in touch with us quickly is via each stylists’ individual booking site, social channels, or via text. Please understand that we have minimal time between each guest, so we thank you in advance for allowing us some time to get back to you.

HOW MUCH WILL MY SERVICE COST?

While we operate as a team, each HAPI stylist is an independent contractor and is responsible for setting their own prices. The best way to learn about service costs is via each stylists’ online booking site or by getting in touch directly with the stylist. Each stylists’ booking platform can be found here.

Curious as to why it’s more expensive to get a curly cut?

Put simply, cutting & styling curly hair requires more time, more expertise, and more product. However, naturally curly hair (without heat damage) typically needs to be cut less frequently.

Cherie, Amber, and Sarah are haircutting pros. Whether your hair is straight, wavy, curly, or kinky/coily, you’re locks are good in their hands. Sarah is our only barber in the salon, so if you’re looking for a cripsy fade or line-up, Sarah is your girl.

Cassi does not cut hair, so if you’re looking to lose some inches (or less than), you’ll need to book with either Cherie, Amber, or Sarah. Learn how to book an appointment here.

WHICH HAPI STYLIST SHOULD I BOOK BRAIDS WITH?

You’ll want to book with either Cassi or Sarah. Both stylists offer a variety of braiding services. You can find a full service list on each stylists’ booking website. Learn how to book an appointment with Cassi or Sarah here.

WHICH HAPI STYLIST SHOULD I BOOK A LOC APPOINTMENT WITH?

Cassi is your girl! She’s our resident protective stylist at HAPI. What’s a protective stylist? A protective stylist is a salon professional who specializes in styles that promote the health & integrity of natural, Black hair. Some styles include twists, braids, cornrows, and locs. You can book with Cassi on our booking page here.

WHICH HAPI STYLIST SHOULD I BOOK WITH IF I WANT A HAIR COLOR OR HIGHLIGHTS?

Both Amber and Cherie have years of experience coloring and highlighting hair. Amber is a master colorist and specializes in all types of hair color services, including balayage, highlights, vivids, and all-over-color applications. She particularly shines with “corrective colors,” so if you’re in need of a color correction, she’s your girl.

Cherie specializes in lived-in color techniques. She’s a pro with delivering a color service that will still look fabulous 6 months later. Looking to color your curls, kinks, or coils? You’re safe in Cherie’s chair.

WHICH HAPI STYLIST SHOULD I SEE IF I WANT A CLIPPER CUT, FADE, OR TAPER?

While Amber and Cherie are well-versed in short haircuts, Sarah is our only barber in the salon, offering specialized services, including beard trims, straight razor shaves, designs, etc. Book with her if you’re in need of a clean, crisp taper or fade.

HOW FAR AHEAD SHOULD I BOOK?

We stay busy at HAPI! We happen to be one of few salons in Oregon that specialize in curly hair. We see people from all over Oregon so our schedules seem to fill up quickly. We recommend booking at least 6-8 weeks before you’re in need of an appointment.

WHAT DOES HAPI STAND FOR?

HAPI is an acronym for HAIR ARTISTS in PURSUIT of INCLUSION. HAPI began as an education company co-created by Cherie, Amber, and Cassi. We continue to travel across the Pacific Northwest bringing natural haircare education to salon professionals and community members alike.

WHO IS THE OWNER OF HAPI HAIR STUDIO?

Cherie owns and operates the studio space. The salon has been in business since May 2021.

HOW SHOULD I PREP MY HAIR FOR A CURLY CUT?

This is one of our most frequently asked questions, so you’re not alone!

It’s best to come with your hair dry and in it’s naturally curly state. Please have your hair mostly detangled when you arrive. It’s okay to have some product in the hair, but please be aware that you’re stylist will need to comb through it prior to the shampoo/conditioning. If your hair takes longer than 10 minutes for us to detangle, there’s a chance we may have to reschedule the appointment. We usually work on pretty tight schedules.

HOW SHOULD I PREP MY HAIR FOR BRAIDS?

Unless you’ve booked an add-on “wash service” with your stylist, please come with your hair blown out and completely detangled. It’s very important that you come with your hair prepped, as we only allot a certain amount of time for each scheduled service.

Please be aware that if you haven’t booked an add-on service and arrive with your hair un-prepped, there is a chance we will not be able to complete your appointment. In this instance, you will still be held responsible for the full cost of the service booked.

WHAT PRODUCTS DO YOU SELL IN THE STUDIO?

We carry product offerings from brands including Matrix, Mizani, Color WOW, and Innersense Organic Beauty.

WHERE CAN I FIND YOU IN THE COMMUNITY?

If you hear about a natural hair workshop in the community, it’s likely hosted by us. We work continuously with companies, community organizations, universities, K-12 schools, and salon professionals to bring natural hair resources to people in need.

Follow us on our social channels (@hapi.hair.studio) for upcoming events & educational workshops in the community. We also keep an up-to-date list of what we’ve got going on here.

On the day-to-day you’ll find us at the Studio chopping it up and doing hair. We welcome you to stop by anytime and say “hello.”
