Black Hair Matters: Building an Equitable Salon Space
Our signature “Black Hair Matters” workshop is where it all started. We realized that before we learned curly haircare, we needed to first understand how to care for Black people. The Black hair journey is very different from others and it’s usually one filled with grief and trauma. Years of being turned away from salons, botched hairjobs, and unequal treatment from hair professionals and the broader industry.
Historically, our industry has alienated kinky & coily hair patterns and it’s our job as hair professionals to bridge the gap in order to create salon spaces that are safe & welcoming for all hair types.
In this 2-hour course, we’ll take a closer look at the many ways in which bias, discrimination, and prejudice has manifested in the salon & haircare industries. This course will examine where we’ve failed to be inclusive in the past so we can take the steps to be equitable in the future.
Whether you’re a salon owner, hairstylist, or budding student, this workshop will give you the tangible tools and insight you need to begin building a salon environment that is representative of all hair patterns, textures, and people.
