Dear valued patrons,
I can’t believe it’s 2024! This past year was a whirlwind but I’m so proud of all the amazing work we’ve accomplished behind the chair & in our community.
We created beautiful hair, held several educational workshops, put together an entire “Hair Zone” for our local Juneteenth event, I was a guest on Angela Taylor’s “Unlocking the Club” podcast, and we appeared on KEZI not once, but twice! We’ve been a little busy to say the least and I have no plans of slowing down.
I’m sure most of you know how important it is to myself and HAPI to change the salon & haircare industries for the better. We envision a world where any hair texture or curl pattern can walk into a salon and receive equal treatment.
We’re not there yet, but we’ve made great progress and there’s more work to be done. I want myself and HAPI to play a pivotal role in the disruption & reshaping of our industry. This has always been the plan since Amber, Cassi, and I had this little idea in 2020, when the world was caving in around us nonetheless, to host a workshop educating other hair professionals about Black haircare.
“So what’s the kicker, Cherie?”
This will require me to spend less time behind the chair and more time focused on the big picture stuff. Trust when I say this was not a decision I came to lightly, but it’s the decision I know I have to make if I want to help us reach our full potential.
By now, I’m sure you’re wondering what will change & how you’ll be impacted. Welp, this means…
- A third of my time will now be dedicated to working behind-the-scenes on HAPI projects I’ve put off far too long. This means you’ll see me less behind the chair and more in the community providing natural haircare resources & education for salon professionals & community members alike.
- My service menu will get some updates that will go into effect February 1, 2024. The new & improved service menu will be all about promoting hair health. My “Signature Curly Cut” will be a three-tiered service now with Gold, Silver, and Platinum package offerings. Haircolor & blonding services will include B3 bond builder to fortify the hair during application & processing time. You can also look forward to a new hair steaming service (the ultimate hydration for your hair) you can select as a solo service or as part of my Platinum package.

- There will be price increases on select services. Any appointment that takes place on February 1st or a later date will incur the new fees. All chemical services will see a $15 increase in base price. You’ll notice the largest price increase to my curly cuts but can expect more value out of each service. There will be an option for “low density” hair, which will cost slightly less. Put simply, it’s expensive to own and operate a small business and keep it afloat. This is what I need to do to make it make sense. I don’t like raising prices. I actually spend hours overthinking and mulling it over in my head. At the end of the day, I have a business to run, and I hope you all understand. These updated prices will remain the same for at least the next 2 years of business.
- I’m in the process of recruiting & training a new stylist who will eventually be taking on clients of their own. I recognize the great need for professionals who can care for curly, kinky, and coily hair, especially in our community. The less hours I work behind-the-chair, the less access community members have to natural haircare. This irks me and I’ve delayed cutting back my salon hours for this very reason. My hope is that this “prodige” of mine, can help in fulfilling the need for curly hair resources in the Eugene/Springfield area.
- Beginning February 1st, my schedule will be closed to new clients for a period of time to prioritize current & longtime clients. If I’ve ever done your hair before in the salon (even if it was once three years ago), I consider you a client of mine. New clients will still be able to join my waitlist until a spot becomes available.
Okay, let’s wrap it up! I know that was a lot, and naturally, I’m sure there are questions. I put together a list of foreseeable questions you can find below. Of course, feel free to reach out with any additional questions or concerns.
If these changes mean I’ll no longer see you in my chair, you will be missed. I am so grateful for your patronage and have enjoyed our conversations.
Wishing you and yours a HAPI and prosperous 2024!
Cherie
Commonly Asked Questions
Why are you increasing your prices?
I assure you my updated curly cut prices are comparable with others at my skill & experience level. In many cases, under the average. These prices will stay consistent for at least the next 2 years.
Please note that while we operate as a team, we are all independent stylists at HAPI and are each responsible for setting our own prices. These specific prices increases apply to my services alone.
Why are curly cuts so expensive?
There’s a few reasons why curly haircare costs more. Generally speaking, if it costs you more, it costs me more; more styling products, more time, more experience & education required.
When will price increases go into affect?
Updates to my service menu will take effect February 1, 2024. If you have an appointment booked between now and January 31st, you will not be expected to pay the updated service fee.
If you currently have an appointment scheduled for February 1st or later, you will be expected to pay the updated price. If you’re not comfortable with my fee increases, you are welcome to cancel your outstanding appointment. You’ll have 48-hours prior to the appointment to cancel without incurring a cancellation fee.
Which services will incur price increases?
All haircut & haircolor services will see price increases.
When will your “prodige” start taking clients?
If all goes according to plan, my trainee will be taking new clients come March 2024.
Which days will you be in the salon?
My regular days in the salon will be Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Fridays with very limited availability on Saturdays.
